Hi guys

Has anyone got a passat gearbox lying about? Looking at piccys and wondered if you could flip the diff and if so what the box measurements are?

Hydro clutch, Drive shafts could be a pain and a linkage would be the worst thing. But no adaptor, 5 speeds and the right ratio's!

Cheers

Seb

i think i looked into this (i used to have a passat and had a good look when i removed it for clutch change) but its a distant memory - I do rememebr that for some reason the diff wasnt doable due to the casing being restirctive.
if you can solve the drive being in reverse then i should think all your other problems like shafts would be easy!!!

is this for a diesel? i think there was also a 6 speed passat box - defo was a golf one but that was transverse.

Darn

I'll give bears a ring tomorrow! They'll know.

I'll need to size it up but cable gearchange and hydro clutch, who could ask for more?

Yeah going diesel, I want to be the first to have done one of each engine conversion in the same van Laugh Out Loud

If I don't like the diesel theres always the VR6 moters. Then a rotary and then electric

Really struggling to find a good EJ22 and found a vw adaptor for £150! So yeah sorry

I've loved the scooby but there is a reason I'm known as the happyhippy on volkszone! Its strange we where talking about changing to diesel one day and then the engine went. Fate!

I'm going for a non fly by wire 1.9 td to get it mocked up and on the road fast, then gonna slowly swap it over to a 1.9tdi 130 or even one of those v6 lumps if I can find one!

Almost looking forward to the wiring on this one!

Just spoken to a guy (andrew) at the gearbox and axle centre in wales and he reckons it may be possable. You can only get into the diff one way but if there is room he can get the diff in the other side, hes seen it done by mistake half way through a build! Eeeek

Its mainly if it shims and measures up properly.

The really good news is that wednesday hes doing a passat box so I'll ring him thursday for a deff yes or no!

Fingers crossed

Seb

a few years ago i recall seeing a van with a audi 80 box fitted ,the box was from a late 80's car and was fitted upside down , the owner told me as the time that he had to drill oil ways through the bulkhead from diff to gearbox and block up the breather vents , but othe than that the was no mechanical alterations to gears etc.

Yeah that crossed my mind but if the box is the right way up, then any VAG engine bolts to it. So if you can get a gearstick and mounts sorted, no adaptor plate.

Saw a 6 speed paddleshift in an expensive breakers up the road, £900!
