i've been reading much chatter about t25 gearboxes of late, quite a few folk reckon the 5 speed is not up to the job of handling the torque of a td?

anyone got any thoughts on this, as i've just picked up the holy grail of T25 boxes - the AAP. Cool This should help reduce my gearing woes, but is it gonna lunch iteself when mated to a 1.9td in my bay? 'kin sods law if it is!

the 4 speed is are supposed stronger than the 5 speed probably due to the shorter main and pinion shafts? the dk box is apparently the stongest t25 box it the one from the lawn mower 2.0cu van but is nose shift and a different front mount. the 5 speed is no higher geared than the 4 speed box but the ratios are just closer spaced. the dk box has the same diff ratio and almost the same top is stronger and is less than half the price of a aap

There are plenty of 5 speed boxes with better ratio than the 4 shifters. It all depends on what gearbox you find.
I go from a 6D to an AAP box, that means much better revs at cruising speed.
6D@60 mph: 3923 RPM (NA Diesel)
ABH@60 mph: 3335 RPM (Turbo diesel)
AAP@60 mph: 2951 RPM (Petrol)

Richard have a very nice table of all boxes:
