Happy Hi , this happens on lots of diesels 4K rpm power drops because the governors start to work knocking the fuelling down gradually, be it a mechanical pump or ECU control ,,, there are some older race tuned Mercedes diesels that make the best HP figures at 6.5k rpm a lot of this is down to the old school cam & piston type fuel pump , the rotary pumps don't seem to like revving much over 3k rpm -not that you'd want to rev the engine above 6k ,, Happy

13 W D , what gearbox do you have in your 13 window ?

dont ask Eeeek its a long story but it was a professional built type1 box with 3.44 ring and pinion and 0.82 4th for the last 2 years but i've converted van to take the bigger 091 box and i've built a 091 box for this season this has 4.57 diff and 0.70 4th gear with a 22mm input shaft to take the 02a golf tdi clutch plate and 002 bellhousing hopefully this should do the trick

Eeeek thats a bloody high ratio Grin I've got a GT box ( will have to check up on the ratio ) to go in mine even that will not be high enough for a TDi , might just have to fit a N/A engine ,Di? ,,

the gt beetle has 2 ratios but the option high ratio box (at?) is 3.75 diff i belive. i wouldnt put a tdi in with a type1 box your asking for trouble they can't handle the torque to be honest my aaz was plenty quick enough in a split if people put them in a t25 thats 500kg heavier as a upgrade its more than enough for a split! plus the aaz and 1.9d 1y engines are revier than a tdi so would be better suited to a gt box

I'm asking Wink did you get a satisfactory outcome to this in the end from the supplier ? You were telling me about it at V'fest and things weren't sounding too good then.

not really dude i ended doing what i was going to do when i first started the project, fitting a 091 and rebuilding it myself i was told the type 1 irs box was plenty strong enough and i was always dubious of that but you live and learn

Happy this seems a popular thread at the moment going by the views , right as I was saying earlier about a golf TDi running 250bhp converted to 4x4 redlines at 5.5k RPM , the guy I know is an agent for REVO that are one of the most trusted when it comes to remapping and tunning VAG vehicles , the amount of work thats gone into making one of his latest demo cars work , infinite variable torque split for the 4x4 system that is controlled by the ABS , he said quite a headache to get round but once sorted is unbelievable ,,, Wink
today I went to another breakers just to see what they had in , was a nice Audi 2.5TDI with 6speed box ,+ Audi 1.9TDi ,,I could choose an engine to me for £100 ( not the 2.5 Grin ),,

golf 4x4 rear drive

later Golf 4x4

looks like these pumps can overheat with the slightest loss of fuel , the link below explains a little about them and how to run them on WVO
