|
|
I *think* I have figured out how the two types of mounts work. Please comment and let me know what I'm missing!
Mount#1 - aka Rabbitboy style is shown below. This mount is squished between the metal mounts attached to the engine and the engine support bar. It is bolted to the engine mounting using a single large bolt on top (A). It is bolted to the engine support bar with two bolts at the bottom (B).
As the engine moves, the mount will be squished further or pulled apart.
Mount#2 - aka 13 window deluxe style is shown below. This mount I found harder to understand. I think that's because I can't see how it connects to the engine support bar.
I believe the center bolt runs through the rubber mount, and then bolts on the bottom to a plate welded to the engine support bar. Did I get it right?
This mount seems like it works by being squished and stretched?
Thanks,
Mark |

I'm examining the 1997 Passat 1Z donor which I've been driving around for the last couple of weeks and have questions on fitment.
1. Intake fitment. The intake protrudes upward higher than the valve cover. I'm thinking this may be an issue with my 15* setup. Is there another intake I should look for or do I have to make something custom?
2. Exhaust Manifold/Turbo. I'm not anticipating fitment issues here. Should I be?
3. Belts: Power Steering and AC. The donor car has PS and AC. The converted bus will have neither, but I like the idea of the AC compressor, that perhaps I will hook it up later. My plan would be to leave the AC compressor connected via the belt and block off the hoses in and out. If I'm seeing things correctly, the PS pump appears to be driven by a separate V-Belt, so I should be able to just remove that without screwing up the serpentine arrangement. Does that make sense?
Thanks,

passat manifolds and turbo are different to the golf as the engine is factory mounted at 30 degrees _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

So would I have an issue running the Passat setup at 15 degrees? Should I be looking for Golf parts?
Thanks,

a golf motor would be better as sump, oil pump etc are the wrong shape on the passat, the golf turbo hangs down on the exhaust manifold giving you more room it the upper engine bay i used a aaz inlet manifold on the 1z engine in my split as the inlet elbow is removeable and a little shorter _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

Hi 13 Window,
Sorry if my questions are dense. In the US, we didn't get Golf diesels in 96-97 which are the only years I can use for emissions reasons.
I'll spend some time looking at the shape of the oil pan, etc. this weekend. Since I'm making a custom mounting bar which will go under the oil-pan, I don't understand how the shape would be wrong. Can you elaborate a little?
Thanks,
Mark |

because the sump and oil pump should be at 30 degee when its at 15 degrees it wont pickup as well. the 15 degree gas sump and oil pump should fit the 1z sorting your problem _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

I checked with one of the guys on TDICLUB and he said:
| Quote: | | All FWD VAG products with inline engines mount their engines at 15 degrees, been that way since 1974. |
Maybe the Europe ones are different, but looks like I should be good to go with mine..
Thanks for the advice and I'll be posting pics and progress as things move along

Hi All,
It's been a while since I've posted.
I was keeping a thread here as well as on TDIclub.com and just figured easier to keep one place updated.
My bus is running with TDI power and I'm testing and working out the bugs!
I'm going to do a more thorough job photographing and documenting once I'm through the bugs. More details here: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=308793
Thanks!
