The engine is the Peugeot XUD diesel engine if its a Rover. They used this engine in

Rover 218's
LDV Pilot
Peugeot 205 305 306 405 406 806 Jumper vans
Citroen Visa BX Synergie Xantia ZX Xsara
Suzuki Jeeps

And thats just a few off the top of my head there are probably many more besides.

Peugeot eh?
Cheers for that - my engineer pal thought it was a Honda unit!
Will check the engine code when I get a chance...

I could be wrong, take a photo of the engine bay and either I or Phil will be able to tell better.

If it isn't then you'd be better off finding an engine thats already got a conversion kit available for it.

Makes it a lot cheaper for you in the long run.

Aye - absolutely! Should be able to get pics by next week - cheers for offer!
I assume then that there aren't any 'off the shelf' conversion kits for Honda diesels? That's really what I was hoping to establish with this post... Wink
Still, any good low mileage diesel that'll fit easily will do for me!

Hondas first diesel only came out about 2 years ago, before that they refused to do one.

ITs a 2.2 with huge amounts of horsepower not a little 1.8 I'm afraid. If you could get hold of one you'd be looking at about £3000 just for the engine.

Awww - That nails that wee idea on the head then!
Seems entirely believable when those funky TV ads for Honda diesels came out just a coupla years ago.
However, IF it's a good Pug unit I'm looking at in the Rover, at least it'll cost pennies...
Cheers all! Hello

Grin Grin its a peugeot quite good because remote intercooler if turbo , remote oil cooler , might be on turbo as well , a friend near me has one in a t25 , he's had it with this engine for four years & its his daily transport ,,,,,,,,, seamonster what are you thinking of putting it in , is it turbo ,,,,,,,

If I do get it, it will be for Eva my Split...

...which is currently fitted with a T1 1776cc dual Dell 36 Porsche fan air-cooler. It got 85 BHP on a dyno last year (after 6 years hard use) but has to come out to sort an oil leak.
However, I've just started rebuilding the T1 1966cc a/c (76mm w/b crank by Laurie Pettitt) from my Bug. It's had the barrels skimmed for a compression ratio increase, stock heads ported a bit, and still to get the Dell 36s and fan from the 1776, then pump oil through the dual cooler system under the Van.
Original idea was for this engine to see me through the next few years cruising - and try and get under 18secs on the quarter mile (which has to be done a/c flat4 for BWA regs). Best time in 2004 was 18.1 secs at Crail Raceway, so not much extra oomph required for the goal! Cool

TBH, this will be the last performance fettling I do with a/c. As we all know, it's just too expensive for the meagre returns. I'm just using existing stock to save a few bob for now. ie. I really wanted to uprate the heads to CB Performance big valve CNC ported ones, but they're well over £600! A turbo would be nice too, but it just gets kinda silly with a/c...
In the long run, I want diesel economy, turbo, torque, water matrix heating, etc. - which is why I come here in the first place!

Idea of Peugeot power was a bit of a hard pill to swallow at first, but it's been pointed out to me (on here) a VAG TDi isn't the most suitable motor for a Van anyway...

Grin Grin sounds about right , is the engine in the rover turbo if so it should be quite quick in the split , i think if you had a 1.9 td in the split you should get less than 18 sec quarter as i was doing less than 19 secs in a t25 1.9td
