That's how I do it, VW-clutch behind a Subaru pressure plate. But buy a new clutch from a tuning company. I have bad experience with the original plates (after all, they are made for little power) and a new clutch plate isn't that expensive.

What Ford engine are you using ?

I use a T25 clutch plate on my ford 1.8TD with Ford flywheel and pressure plate and works fine

It may be that the T25 has a better clutch than the T2.

My kit from GBE uses all ford clutchparts and just the vw release bearing-and this is I believe the standard dohc ford adaptorplate that I am using on my 1.8D-soon to become TD-woop woop (Got the engine in a car and just need to swop em over Grin

unfortunately for me the dohc has a one off crankshaft and flywheel, only shared with the escort rs2000 of the same era, the flywheel is of megalithic proportions, its really deep so i dont think me vw input shaft will be long enough to sit in the spiggot bearing?
does anyone know how far a vw input shaft protrudes from the outer edge of the bell housing, i need to do some maths! its a 2ltr box.
cheers.

the flywheel is flush with the edge of the hewland adaptor plate, i had to have 3mm taken off the outer edge of the flywheel to get it to clear!
