Interesting stuff about the ECU's. I presume the 20vt use the same stud pattern as the afn's do they ? My plan is to get my ford lump in the van and use that to get the cooling sorted and generally shake down the van. I should hopefully get an idea of how much I will use the can then and will probably base this on my decision as to what engine to go for.. so if I decide i'd be happy to use it as my daily I'll go TDI but if it ends up more of a toy thing and weekends away then maybe 20vt... at least if I get a vw adapter it will give me the choice.. assuming they do have same stud pattern.
Cheers for the info
You doing Vfest this year ?
yes the 20vt is the same pattern as the afn/avg tdi motor would be awsome in a van
ford motor? what motor is that 1.8td? if its from one of the last of the intercooled escorts or a mondeos it shouldnt be to bad.
yes i will be at vanfest again flying the flag for vwkd and the whole alternative engine scene trying to wind up as many purist as possible would like to see a few more of the vwkd lads on display this year though especially in earlier vans all the alternative engines line up last year were t25's i was the only split in there _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

I have just aquired an AFN engine but no ECU, can you advise me as to what sort of ECU I need to try and abtain? and where I can obtain wiring diags or other info re this?
Hi Mick welcome , I've been building MTDi hybrid pumps that might be the best option for the engine you've bought , as for the turbo I'm planning on using the same type on one of my next projects because of the power gains throughout the rev range , bit of work setting them up with link rods/cables , pic below shows a nice thought out TDi VNT installation , I've painted parts of pic for clarity

Picked gearbox up , checked the t25 diesel splash plate that fixes to the engine = it was slightly out of shape - once fettled it fit the bloody gearbox
How long we got for vanfest can see a mad rush comming on _________________ Auto Union Munga Jeep ,T4 2.4td , T4 2.5tdi ,Mercedes S Class on LPG , 66 splity deluxe , GP mk1, 3 type 25s 1 with 1.9dt pug engine + 1 with N/A pug engine ,,there are 6 t25s with pug power in Darlington

Hi it's just a pic I found trawling the net I've collected some parts from a ventilation specialist that look very similar and a pal has the correct turbo sat waiting so just a mater of putting it all together _________________ Auto Union Munga Jeep ,T4 2.4td , T4 2.5tdi ,Mercedes S Class on LPG , 66 splity deluxe , GP mk1, 3 type 25s 1 with 1.9dt pug engine + 1 with N/A pug engine ,,there are 6 t25s with pug power in Darlington

Yeah it's a 90 BHP TD Intercooled jobby from a '94 Scort.. I'm adding a charge cooler and will try and crank the fueling/boost up to try and get the most out of it but I can't ever seeing it matching the performance/smoothness of either my passat 110 or golf 150 tdi's. The other advantage of going with the 110tdi is the chip fat option which I've been doing now for a couple of years on my passat and saved a fortune in fuel costs.
Good to see you'll be flying the flag no doubt see you there though not confident enough to get my bus finished in time with baby due next week I think progress is gonna come to a grinding halt when that happens It was a bit T25 tastic last year for sure and even NeilC was in hiding. I think Elusive should display now his bus is all shiny and he actually has the flag to fly _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

i've seen something that was like that a few years since on the internet on a diesel tuning forum might of been freds tdi club? it was fitted to a polish mk2 golf with a 1z engine conversion with a landy pump and a afn vnt turbo but the one i saw had a push bike brake cable connected to the injection pump lever with a spring inbetween and this pulled the vanes one way as the throttle pedal was floored and there was a waste gate acctuator on the other side of the vnt lever shoving the vanes back the other way as max boost was hit to stop overboost. the problem people have with a manual opperated vnt is that if you floor the throttle pedal at low engine speeds the boost can rise so fast at low engine speeds which destroys the gearbox as there is so much torque this is why vw controlled the vnt cars by vacuum with the ecu, this is why a remap can release so my more low down torque _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

as far as i know all the early one's are vacum but alot of later stuff has gone on to electronic solinoid opperation control by the ecu. _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,
