70 mph is about 3600rpm but will sit at 80 all day about 4250, i think it would top out at about 90-100mph but holding it at that for very long would probably cook the gear & engine oils. 70mph is fast enough for me does 40mpg round town and at 70mph and towing a twin axle trailer with a car on at 60mph a few week since got 34mpg average before the tdi i had a 1800cc digifant gti engine fitted to the same van same gearbox etc and used to get 20mpg so worth the swap hence why im going down the tdi route with my splitty

yes the first conversion that i did back in 91 was gti but that was K jetronic into
t25 diesel , (got it with rod throught block) would sit at 115 not happy with MPG , thats why i started fitting peugeot td engines +they were 2 a penny , and as you say holding them at high speeds for long periods will cook the oils , pug engines ok as the cooler works well , but the gearbox can get realy hot , and the oil froths up , to the extent that it is forced out the breather wont after go as fast in the one im on with at the moment _________________ Auto Union Munga Jeep ,T4 2.4td , T4 2.5tdi ,Mercedes S Class on LPG , 66 splity deluxe , GP mk1, 3 type 25s 1 with 1.9dt pug engine + 1 with N/A pug engine ,,there are 6 t25s with pug power in Darlington
Thats very interesting, I wanted to go VW td route but with a later engine. I am still looking at the subaru and ford routes but to keep it VW would be a real bonus
