Any one seen the conversion was it a good move.
Engine height seems a bit of a problem. what else bolts up to this box? |

Why not just use the Subaru engine and Subaru 5 speed to replace the original running gear? Engine in the back, gearbox in front of it. Subaru boxes can now have their diff 'flipped' using reverse cut ring and pinions.
The Subie box is 2cm shorter than an 091 box and doesn't need an adaptor plate when bolted to a Subie motor so the whole deal is compact.
There's another thread covering it in greater detail but check out www.subarugears.com _________________ Reversed gears for Subaru Transmissions

I would agree that your solution is very neat but not a winner for my application. I am not planning to go drag racing with my camper at weekends. I just want ot get from A-B and bit quicker and more reliably. If it did a few more miles/gallon then that would be a bonus.
You are out of my league as by the time I had bought a Subaru box and your reverse gear pinion it would cost in excess of £1700. Subaru engines are well sort after and anything decent would cost a further £800-£1000 for a turbo so by the time you get a few other bits and pieces you wouls be well over £3000. The non turbo scooby engine is cheaper but down on power in comparison to other alternatives.
The Renault UN1 box can be found for about £300 and costs little to flip the diff. It has good ratios for cruising with a 3.44 diff. Renault engines can be found for beer money offering reasonable power and the v6 turbo is no slouch but I agree not as quick as a subaru. Could be done for about £1000. The only draw back as far as I see is the box is 100mm longer and I do not know if it can be made to fit in a Bay without major surgery.
Whilst I have not yet finished welding the bodywork up yet I still have time to research the best solution for my application. By that time you may have sold enough of your pinions to the race boys with money to offset your development costs and will sell one to me in my price range. |

Wow I tell you what superleggo, you are lucky to be able to get those renault transaxles so cheap and in such plentiful supply over there. They are a lot harder to find in this neck of the woods.
For the 2,000 price difference I would snap up the renault too, and just do some surgery to my vehicle. Stuff the Subie box.
Wish I could sell you a r&p heaps cheaper but its already at rock bottom price. Good call about the race boys though, I might promote out to them and get the volumes up. Good luck with your project! _________________ Reversed gears for Subaru Transmissions

The final drive ratio's are 3.9:1, 4.1:1 or 4.4:1 according to ttriebler's site.
If you used a 4.1:1 set with a stock 5MT 5th gear 0.78:1 will give an overall ratio of 3.198:1.... _________________ The V6 Lowlight. See the full build here - http://osp.metrohosting.info/kombiv6.html |

What gearbox is in the new mexican T2 bus. Is this bolted up to the new polo engine? I read somewhere that the new polo engine is about 150hp. so what box is used for this power in the new bus. what are the ratios are they any use to return some sensible mpg figures. Is the new T" reenginered underneath? Anyone seen one
I have just about finished the bodywork on my bus and now got ot decide which engine and box to fit. Time to let the welding scars heal and get some oil under the fingersnails! _________________ VW Camper 1971
