will any diesel vw engines bolt onto my beetle box?

simple question!!

i've had the t25 bellhousing situation before but is that just to tilt the motor over?
is the stud pattern the same on a petrol t25/bug/bay/etc the same but not at the same angle?

i'm after putting diesel power in my baja as simply as possible and as its a baja the height space problem isn't there!

The diesel engine has a different bolt pattern to the flat four engines.
The type 25 diesel bellhousing is both to tilt the engine and to adapt it to the gearbox normally used for flat four motors...

right, finally cleared that up!

so does anyone know you can change the bell housing on a beetle gearbox?
i've changed a bellhousing before on my old t25 so know whats involved there.

beetle boxes are all one casting - ie you cant remove the bellhousing like on a bay / t25 etc.

However you could use a T2 box....1600 ones are common and cheap although the 2ltr one would be better if your going diesel.

Doppelganger has fitted a bus box in his beetle - have a look in the subaru section at his beetle re how to do this - not a simple bolt in job tho.

i've got a ford adapter plate that i can use but its mated to a v6 essex motor, i dont want to use that engine for this project(its for my rail) but i dont know what diesel engine will fit the adapter plate.

i think the v6 is a different bolt pattern to a 4 cylinder ie pinto cvh etc i might be wrong though try the ford section of this site hope this helps
