This is my first post. I found this forum through the "VW engine swap message board".
This van was converted in the spring of 2003. Two days after the engine was bolted in I left Newfoundland and headed to BC. Eleven days and six thousand k's later finally arrived. Only problem was a cooked fuel pump in Quebec due to a poorly routed fuel return line.
I used the Kennedy kit, with an assortment of VW fox, Golf and Rabbit parts
Fox parts - intake manifold, airbox and fuel injection stuff, engine mounts, top pan, fuel pump
Golf - engine and oil pan,
Rabbit - radiator, exhaust header,
The engine support is like a square around the oil pan so there is no bar going under the engine to reduce clearance. It also has a skidplate that bolts to the underside to protect the bottom of the engine. This setup will be attached to a transmission skid plate for more strength.
There is a small mazda fan pulling from behind the rad and hardly ever gets used.
Has anyone found the need to drill a hole in their water pump thermostat?
The web page was made by my brother based on info from my dad, so it badly needs updating but theres a few good pictures.
Thanks for looking, Aaron

Welcome Aaron
Have a quick look in our posting pictures guide. We'd like to see this _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Please let me be the first....
OH MY GOD!!!! You have a boat on top
Seriously tho', nice work.
Do you get shunned over in Canada for doing a non-air-cooled conversion? It's getting better over here for this sort of heresy
I know it's quite favorable on the T3 side to do this sort of stuff. _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Sorry I havent replied for so long. Its been a while since Ive had access to the web.
Thanks For the help posting and for the compliments.
Some people shun me for the conversion but most are very interested. They see the radiator and come right upto me and start asking questions. Its a good conversation piece. Ive yet to see another liquid cooled bay in person.
Soon to come is a 1.6 turbo diesel engine with less than 10,000 k's on the rebuild from my wifes soon to be scrapped mk1 jetta. Veg oil conversion also.
See you.
Aaron. |

Glad to have you back.
The "alt engine" scene is getting a lot more interest over here now.
Looking forward to the new conversion photos _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

I worked in a bodyshop for a winter and was able to work on my van after hours. I had full use of the entire shop and supplies. In the end my boss only charged me 700 dollars canadian, and that included a new windscreen. Removed all doors and glass except rear side windows, ran out of time.
