|

Hi all,
I have decided on my engine finally (well acctually my dad decided it for me lol)
He was looking on ebay last night and there was an engine with 2 mins left - no time to ask me so he just bought it.
£137 for a ford 2.5 V6 from a Mondeo with 80k on it - still in the car running perfectly he thought it was a bargain not to be missed. Although I will not be getting the whole car so if anyone could help me with which bits I'll need so I don't forget anything (ECU and engine loom, fuel pump etc) I'd be grateful.
I am sure that this will not fit with the adapter plate (its for ford 1.8 diesel/CVH etc) I bought so I am sure I'm in for a bit more involved swap now, but what the hell should be a very pokey, super smooth and torquey engine.
My mini is almost done now as well (took longer than expected - SUPRISE) so I should be able to get cracking again.
Just out of interest I've noticed the link that Rusty69bus put up for the aussie Baja with the mazda/ford probe V6 - any idea if this would be the same engine. If it is then not only is that a great coincidence - its also damn handy!! |

Cheers for that, JP. Should be a mint engine found out now its off an auto so its got no clutch - problem #1 LOL
Having said that my dads got a spare clutch off the V6 that hes put in his Morgan so maybe that'll fit - wishful thinking??
Going to get the engine on Mon - can't wait to start playing with it, its so much easier to understand things when you've got them there in front of you!
Only thing is the mini is not quite done yet and I'm really wanting to start playing with the camper again. Will power is about to be tested to the max to get the mini done! |

Yeah - I hadn't checked that yet, my dad reckoned 180 (good guess really)
Hope the gearbox doesn't mind. |

So far so good!! Picked it up yesterday from Barnsley without incident - LOL.
Although are a lot of ancillaries (mostly cooling system - thermostat and the like) on what will be the front of the engine (forward of the gearbox mounting face) which may cause problems with the bulkhead and the crossmember which supports the gearbox.
On the plus side the engine seems to be the same sieres as the 3.0 that dads just put into his morgan so the clutch and flywheel hes got may well work. Oh and I got the ECU for 3 quid so all in £140 for engine and ECU.
Next job is to investigate exactly what bits are in the way (hopefully they will be easy to reposition) and take some accurate measurements in order to determine it will fit phyisically.
Anyhow still got a couple of weeks to do on my mini, so I can't get my teeth into it just yet. |

Not as yet - I'm still finishing off a mini project at the mo.
I have to say I'm not overly hopeful.
My dad currently has a morgan which hes fitted with the 3.0V6 (X-type and Mondeo ST220). Its in chesterfield having the ECU wired in by the company who do all the stuff for Noble (who use the same engine - save for twin superchargers on it ).
So obviously my dads been picking their brains about my project. They sound pretty pessimistic about my chances of getting it in there - so I'm not getting my hopes up too much - engine could be back on ebay before long

Does this mean the essex has the same interface as the CVH etc?? If so I have a backup plan.
You see a good friend is building a '34 ford coupe hot rod with a supercharged essex fully detailed and show shiney. In order not to damage this engine he has another essex which the chassis was being built around - its only got 20k on the clock!! |

i belive so,v6 (ford)gearbox has long clutch shaft aparently.
but to be certain get hold of metal plate spacer use between ford engine and box to test.
dont know if this would be any help on the 2.5 v6 front
