Temp gauge not working T25 diesel

Hi there
My temp gauge is not working on my T25 pug diesel engine conversion

The previous owner had fitted the VW temp sender into the pug temp sender housing and it has a brown and a brown/yellow wire attached to the sensors on the thermostat housing
All seems to be ok but it still does not work
I have tested the sender unit with a multi meter and it gives approx 400ohms when cold and 120 ohms when dipped in my cup of tea
Does this sound right or should I just get a new one
Also what colour wire is connected to the sensor from the original VW loom?

Any help would be much appreciated

vw coolant temp wire colour should be a yellow or yellow/red wire depending on year, short the wire to earth and the gauge should go in to the red if not its the wiring or clocks

Generally temp senders go from a couple of K ohms (cold) to a couple of hundred ohms at 100°C

I can't be too specific as they all vary.

Well I tried all the wires but none of them make the temp gauge move
So I think that the gauge may be broken
I will have to get the multi meter out and start to check the wires out to see if there are any faulty bits.

But I will have to get a new temp sender unit as the one that was in there I managed to snap in half.
