I really dont want to go to the bother of getting a TD lump as its a bit on the pricey side(eg im a cheap skate) and i was thinking, what are the actual differences between the D and the TD?
- you have a different sump for drain back which i have one.
- you have a turbo/manifold, I have one off a 1.7 diesel astra van so its gonna be a close match I would imagine, I can make the connecting pipe work.
- you need an oil outlet on the oil filter housing to supply the turbo with oil, I'm sure I can get one (unless anyone has one going cheap)
-you need to have a turbo diesel fuel pump(anyone got one cheap that works?)
is that about the sum of it?
Its just im busy making bit to reinstall the engine in the van(just made a starter adaptor which needs testing got a few other bits to make) and I thought well while im at it, why not turbo it as it means I can do testing out side the bus rather than stuggle to work on it in the van. _________________ Second Gear All The Way Baby!

| the none turbo lump will not have oil cooling under the pistons. In a van i would say this is a must as the engines do get hot.you will need an injection pump with an lda.dont know about astra manifold not tryed one.OIl feed just needs a flexing made up my local hydralic supply shop charges me £12 for one,but some of the none turbo filter heads have small outlets for switchs and may need opening up a little. |

ah right I know what you mean about cooling, the engines have oil squirters under the pistons. The turbos off an astra but i wouldnt use the manifold as i know it wont fit, I have a golf GTi 16v manifold on the engine off so would make custom pipe work to suit. oil returns not a problem. Oil feed I could just use a T junction from the oil pressure switch I suspect like most people do with the A/C petrol engines. So really just need to track a turbo pump down.
I will have a look at the haynes manual and see what year the piston squirters were fitted. _________________ Second Gear All The Way Baby!
