| hi all, do you guys think that the vw engine support bar is strong enough to hold up my dohc sierra engine? bit worried that it hangs under the chasis , or am i being paranoid? was going to build triangular turrets up to the ford mounting brackets as they are in line with the vw bar. the gearbox is secured using the vw points front and rear. cheers, mike. |

I'm fitting a pinto engine (similar to the DOHC????) I've just hung it under the chassis similar to the vw design. I did made a new crossmember though, basically a capri item with new ends. See pics here
http://www.vwkd.co.uk/bb/viewtopic.php?t=125&start=48 about 2/3 of the way down.
So I don't think hanging it below the chassis should be a problem to be honest mine seems rock solid. Not sure on the bar itself, I've not seen one, my bay came without an engine. |

your engine bar looks very sturdy mate. the vw bar is basically held on by 1 bolt either side, these bolts take the whole weight from what i can make out. the dohc mounts are alloy, which stick out horizontally from the lump, bit different to the pinto im afraid, mores the pitty!
i suppose i could weld it together too, give it a bit more strength.
cheers, mike. |

Oh, my chassis had three holes each side that looked like they were for the engine bar. I just used two bolts each side for my bar.
Don't think I'd be too keen on hanging it off one either. |

| the hanger bracket has 2 bolts which go to the chasis rail vw mount either side, but the actual bar is held by one bolt thru a rubber engine mount. think i will fabricate my own out of box section for piece of mind! dont want the engine hitting the deck down the m54! cheers steamo. |
