Clutch / starter issue mk3 gti

Having removed the engine from my donor 2l 8v GTI at the weekend I found the most bizarre clutch arrangement I have ever seen on a car, just goes to show, do your reasearch!
I am now after a "conventional" type flywheel, clutch and pressure plate, any idea which of the golf's etc have them?
Next problem, neither the original 1600 bay starter nor the 2l GTI starter fit the T25 diesel bellhousing I am using, which is the best starter to use?

Also, does anybody have a T25 diesel sump, oil pump or engine mounts for sale?

i'm assuming the 8v gti engine has a similar clutch setup to the aaz diesel, it certainly is a bit strange isn't it!

My conversion kit comes with a flywheel which bolts onto the crank as per usual, it's effectively a beetle flywheel extended, so if your using the t25 bellhousing i'd keep on the look out for a T25 or a type 4 flywheel - pretty certain they share the same flywheel bolt pattern to the later water cooled stuff.

For starter i converted a Tdi one, but you could simply use a T25 one on the petrol engine, easier to source and you wouldn't need the extra grunt to turn the gti engine.

How do I go about adapting a tdi starter? There's no T25 starters on Ebay but loads of tdi's.

Just had a scan through, couldn't find the threads which had pictures on?

from what i've read there are two types. 1 type which you can re drill the holes, and the it'll mesh fine with the flywheel as the offset's correct. The second requires a little plate made up to convert from one pattern to another.

My starter required the first treatment, for which i've got photo's somewhere? I'll see if i can dig out some photo;'s at some point.

and I definitely remember seeing photo's of the other type of starter being converted (worth asking or looking at 13 window deluxe or bugsy_malone 666's threads as I seem to recall they've both used this method)

Problem solved, bought a complete t25 diesel engine and box so have the correct starter but will still need to adapt it to turn it upside down.
