Is there anyway I can work out which scooby engine I have , my bay window has just been converted and have been told I can't have details of the doner vehicle due to data protection (is this true ? ) I would like to know what engine I have for spares / fixing ect, I dont want to be tied to the convertor. Also I am confused about what engine I have, the convertor states its an ej20 circa 98 putting out 115 bhp but according to the wikipeidia page (possibly inaccurate !) an ej20 of this age should be around 135 and it's the ej18 which puts out around 115, any help appreciated.

That's complete b0llox. I had exactly this problem with my engine. If you read the "sticky" above it clearly states "Get a CHASSIS number". Maybe it's stolen, which is something that went through my mind when I bought my engine!

I have a 98 Imp Sport and a Scooby mechanic said "ooh, it's the 135 motor". I'm not too sure this is accurate though
Errrm, why do you have to be tied to the convertor? There's plenty of knowlegable/good people around ie RJES & Spannerboy(VZi). Ohh, did I miss someone?

Right, look on the engine block (through your decklid). See the pulley dead in front of you, there's the alternator above, look on the LHS on top for the block. Does it say EJ20?
Next, remove the oil cap, look underneath, does it say '98? Maybe remove a cam cover too for clarification.
If it says EJ18, sue 'em.

'78 Bay, 2 litre 091 box, EJ20 NA & the ashtray's on the 'right' side.
I don't lean forward for hills any more Grin
Bugger, missed out on "Live fast, die young"
