Hello, no more type4 for me.

After owning my bay for about 9 years I have finally decided that I'm spending no more time and money on the 2 litre lump that lives in it. Had to put another brand new head on it to go to Germany and the Polish border for the half term.....

So out with this muck....

And this is the one thats going in...

It's 1Z and runs sweet as a nut. Gave £350 for the whole car, so will be able to use the elctrics and heating system from it.

good choice and can sympothise with your type 4 hell. What's yer plan of action ? Where you intending to mount yer rad?

great choice of engine dude had 1 in my bay with a 091 2litre box it will make a great van you wont belive the torque and fuel economy after the type4 motor. check out my van on the forum for ideas

Thanks for that. Progress so far is last weekend I pulled the old motor and sold it on vzi for nearly enough to cover the Kennedy adaptor kit Happy

Rang Kennedy and ordered the kit plus starter motor on Wednesday night.

Today I dropped the engine and box out of the Golf, pulled the box off and slung it in the boot along with all the other rubbish.
Also removed the complete wiring harness out of the engine bay and pulled all the plugs under the dash where the engine loom goes into the fuse box. For me this is going to be the worse part as I don't enjoy electrics and the amount of wires in the loom has me scared already.
Any tips or pointers in this department will be very welcome.

I love working in the rain.....

Cheers 13 window.
Today I stripped the loom out of the dash. Got the immobiliser box thing out but i'm sure it wasn't used as the key that came with the car has a hole where the chip would be? Removed the wires out of loom that went to front doors and rear lights.
Managed to lose one of the brake light switches and now don't know which plug it went onto

So both looms on garage floor fitted back onto fuse box and there a few wires to choose from Cool

As i was taking loom from under the dash, anything that wasn't connected to the engine or controls I cut the plugs from to make it easier to work out which wires to remove.
Also I found a box bolted the the transmission tunnel tuck right under the heater box and it says on it do not remove. Is this something to do with the airbags fitted to the car?
Anything else connected to the airbag system I have cut off, have I done the right thing?

Are there any more useful sites to check out for wiring hints and help?

Have decided today to stop worrying about the wiring and just get loom sorted and plugged back together. The motor ran fine before I stripped it out so theres no real reason why it shouldn't again Happy

I am going to run the radiator behind the front panel drawing air in thru the grill and I am thinking of putting another early bay grill into the panel lower down and exiting the air though the cab floor.

not saying the wiring is easy but its not that bad Wink

but i would say that i've done quite a few now Grin

it does really help if you have the factory wiring diagram for the engine

has the key you got with the car got 1 smooth side and a hole approx 12mm in the other side?
