I've just booked a 1.9 TDI from a Passat -95, I'll get it after christmas. Time to read about making a TDI-pump manual then.
I hope the sump fits, does it?..
Right now I plan to rip the things out directly after new year. It will be a super fast project. Everything or nothing in 2.25 days. |

only thing to know about manuals pumps is there pointless! wire it up like vw intended. the t25 sump will fit all tdi's up to 2000 _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

There are different routes; use all the electronics from the donor, make a hybrid pump (AAZ housing, AHU/1Z internals) or switch to a TDI pump that comes as a manual.
I'm going for the third option. |

I found a quick guide at Brick-yard about refitting an AAZ. Ok, I'm going for a newer engine but for some reason it states that the 1.6D sump doesn't fit on the AAZ.
Uh?.. |

| i'd only guess that's got something to do with the oil pickup for the turbo - i think they differ between the aaz and the 50 deg mounted 1.6td - and ofcouse the 1.6d would lack it. |

what third option? there was never a tdi engine with a mechanical pump.
fitting tdi parts to a aaz pump is still not ideal as you have a large diameter read stronger drive shaft in a 1z/ahu injection pump how long will the smaller aaz shaft cope with larger camplate and increased fuel pressure etc?

the t3/t25 1.6d/td sump will defo fit all 4 cylinder engines petrol and diesel up to the introdution of the pd tdi and pdi engine around 2000 dependent on platform. i have personally fitted these sumps to golf gti engines, aaz's and 1z and ahu tdi engines in the past. you do have to fit the oil pump pickup pipe from the t3/t25 due to the odd shape of the sump _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

There was no Volkswagen mechanical TDI. There are a bunch of manual TDI pumps out there. Renault and Fiat did use them for a very long time on the buses. Land Rover used them quite a while too, actually it's the same pump on the Land Rover and the Reanult Master. I have a pump waiting to be sent from England. Will post pictures.

Ah, great. Thanks mate. I got really confused by that quick guide, they wrote some odd stuff there... |

i've read of ford transit 2.5di pumps being modified and fitted with the vw tdi engine.
i've run a hybrid mechanical pump made from afew pumps but based on a landrover tdi pump on my 1z tdi suzuki samurai offroader, the performance was nuts on the road when climbing 1in8 hills i could blitz disco 300 tdi's with modified turbos and pumps etc without trying and offroad you had a job stopping all 4 spinning but it was a bit rattly and nowhere as smooth running as a electronic pump and ecu.
I did wonder about long term reliability of the engine but being a off roader it never did many miles and someone gave me the engine for free so i had nothing to loose if it had blown up and i definatly didnt want electronic due to wading _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

AAAARGGGH!..
Got the TDI pump at home now (thanks easy-does-it, you made it happen!) and it's looking really good. So what happens?..
Before christmas I talked to a guy who was selling his Passat in parts. And we decided that I was going to pick it after new year. Well, called him during the week and he said it was all done, the engine was out from the car. So I called him today and he said he was out driving and I was going to call back at 6 a clock.
So I did, and he hang up!
And I called again, and he hang up!
Again, and he hang up!
I called the barsteward ten times and was waiting in his hoods.
Bloody idiot. I have to find another engine now. |

Conversion part gathering continues. I'm together with friends building up a new garage since we have to move soon, so at the moment the pickup is really doing its works. I've transported tons of material with it and even though the engine is.. eeeh... not so speedy, it runs like a charm. The new garage place will be totally pimped. Will post pic's when it's done (except my own carbon fibre workshop I'll have my own space in the motorclub workshop, washing hall, car lift, paint box, a bar, a terrass and showers).
Today I got a call from a guy who owns aaaaa lot of buses and he picked up a fresh AAP gearbox for me. So now I'll get better RPM for a TDI. He also said that if I replace the fifth gear in the AAP with the fourth from the box I have I'll get a "German Getriebe" or something like that, don't remember really what he called it. Anyway, that would lower the RPM further to 2590 in 60 mph - on 14 inch wheels. I might do that...
I have some TDI's on hold. They are not close by, so I haven't decided yet which one to buy. Right now, no hurry. |

Finally after some research I've found an engine I think will work. The turbo blew up and they replaced the engine. The guy doesn't know if the engine sucked in crap from the turbine, but he has the turbo in the workshop so I can have a look at it when I pick up the engine. If it's damaged I can buy a head from another engine that was wrecked when a guy ditched his Golf.
Engine to the left:
The one to the right...
What do you think, good or anus?
It's a chance take. But a cheap one. |
