hi
has anyone managed to keep the scooby burbble on their conversions, ive just fabricated yet another exhaust system using manifolds from RJES but still cant seem to keep the sound,
its a simple set up running from the o/s round the back of the engine between cradle and bellhousing to the n/s where it goes into a 2 piece collector where the pipe from the other manifold connects , from there it goes towards the rear of the van with a 90 degree bend to send it across the front of the timing cover into a backbox ,all this is done with 2 inch pipe the backbox is 450mm long 125 in diameter with a 2" entrance and a 3" exit , engine is a 1992 2.2 legacy lump non turbo
please help |

I was under the impression to get that real Subaru sound you need the turbo motor.
But in saying that b4tfink's 2.5 conversion sounds like an Aston Martin _________________ Think......

Keep your primary headers to around 6" to keep the rumble.
Turbos make it sound much more.
With the Nat Asps it's bad exhaust design(*) that makes the burble. In an ideal world the primary headers should all be the same length

Any reason you're not using a stock (or pie sliced for clearance) header? _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

hi elusive
what do you mean when you say pie sliced manifold as ive not heard of that, reason for not running a stock manifold is that it is a lot lower than the tsr sump ive fitted and i want all the pipework above the sump for obvious reasons now that the bus has been lowered again |

Cut the angle to suit yours.
WRX headers have less "height" (compared to a Nat Asp) to them as stock. I have one but haven't played with it yet _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Bah, all lies
The look on peoples faces when they open my engine lid expecting to see a turbo engine and theres just an N/A Ej22 under there is priceless.
Even subi nuts can't pick mines not turbo, something in my exhaust when I wind the engine out whistles like a turbo spooling and my new timing belt at low revs makes a blower/straight cut whine.
Even the boss of the subi joint here with 30 years working on them thought it was a rexxydub the first time I pulled up.
Secret on getting that choppy turbo engine note is in the header design.
this is with my old muffler, new one isnt quite as loud
Video doesnt quite do it justice but you get the idea.
