hi i want to do a diesel conversion to my 72 bay 1600, i have a 19 sdi engine, loom, etc, and have just got hold of 16td engine and box out of a 89 t25 complete ( jx ) and i think the gearbox is a 6 rib (is this a 4 speed ) sorry all new to me. Happy but learning fast ,, do i use the t25 bellhousing with my original gearbox and use the sdi engine or keep the t25 engine box together, (will the 1600 turbo go on the 1900) i dont really drive over 60 (just as well lol) just wanna not struggle on hills and what conversion would give me the best mpg , any advice and info would be most appreciated...thanks

if the 1.6td jx engine and box are good sell them to a t25 owner get good money put the engine in with a adaptor plate on to a 2.0litre bay cp box 40mpg easy 70mpg easy and the engine doent need odd shaped sumps etc

you dont need anything from the jx engine or box just sell them complete. to fit the sdi you just need a adaptor plate between the sdi motor and the cp box p.s. illzee mate who sells the adaptors sends out instructions with the kit detailing part numbers of the starter etc but there just a standard vw part i believe

you say its a 1.9? got a engine code is it turbo or non turbo?

the jx is 1.6 turbo so if you say it's 1.9 its defo not one of those

all t25 boxes are 6 rib doesnt mean it will fit the bay the cp box (the one you want is nose shift the t25 box is side shift) the t25 diesel box is 6 rib side shift but MEGA LOW GEARED and no good for a bay

Hi yeah thanks for response 13 window, i stripped engine with turbo down today and its code is A A Z , 1.9, and the gearbox is a side selector, they did come out of a T25, a couple come over from Gearmany on holiday and there camper went up on fire,, left the cooker on ( poor sods ) looks to have had a few pound spent on it, (could even be a re con ) and sdi engine is a AFY ( think ) 1.9, im thinking about using one with turbo ( is it the better one ) I did notice the water pipes slightly differ, and above on where the oil filter sits there are 2 oil pipes coming off, where would they go to , i wonderd about an oil cooler or something,, and do i need them , ( parts every where ) Laugh Out Loud , i will get some pics together when i know what im doing thanks again

there not noisy with no exhaust i only ever ran 1x single straight through silencer on my van with no excess noise. so you plan to mount at 50 degree if your running the wedge shapped t25 sump
