Since starting my upgrade from Ford D to TD I've been finding lots of annoying things hindering my progress using the escort TD engine mainly the Turbo position but there have been other issues with the mounts and oil feeds etc..
Having seen pics of Sierra and P100 TD engines and the fact that my D engine set up uses Sierra mounts, I have felt that one of these would slot straight in due to the fact it sits in the same direction in the sierra as it does in the bus...anyway saw a Sierra TD in my local freeads for £50 at the weekend so thought I'd grab it. Hopefully this will make my life a bit easier just need to incorp the intercooler into this set up as this is a non intercooled TD whereas the escort was, a diff of 15+bhp which may not sound much but in percent terms it's quite a bit 75-90 !
Anyway hopefully picking it up thurs so will post my findings then. _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

sounds like a good plan JP! If you get some spare time would it be alright to pop over to see your van? I'd even give you a hand if need be! It's just to get a better picture of whats involved with the conversion and see how you've done the exhaust and engine mounts.
Cheers

No probs coming and having a look (it resides in Melksham) hoping to be over there at some point this weekend ripping the Sierra apart but anytime you fancy give us a call, any excuse I can give the Mrs to go over the lockup is good by me I may even do you a good deal on some Sierra engine mounts which make life much easier _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

Good find fella It's a shame that the escort conversion wasn't as simple as we hoped. But the sierra engine sounds like a good idea and for £50 well it doesn't matter if it doesnt fit.
I look forward too hearing of your progress fingers crossed the there's no fly wheel issues! _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |

Great stuff jp, sounds like you could be onto a winner there.
Be interesting to see a couple of pictures once you get it to see what the difference is between them both _________________ DARREN

Thought I'd see if it would start before stripping so bunged a battery on it and primed some diesel through and it started first click !! not bad after 18 months sat outside ! Took it for a spin round the field and found the turbo wasn't kicking in for some reason !! not that'll I'll be using it !
As you can see the turbo is within the confines of the engine and not sticking out the back like on my escort td lump. Also hardly any electrics on this TD ! reckon I could just bolt this one straight in in replace of the D motor.
