bosch pump on 1.9 n/a citroen engine

ok ive got the engine into the van and tried to start it tonight. the engine is fitted with a lucas diesel pump. to my horror she didnt start, cracked open the injectors and no fuel. the fuel cut of solenoid was operating and there was fuel reaching it. after a while of cranking the engine there was no fuel passing through the pump. so it looks like the pump is shot, bummer.
now my mate has a bosch pump from a 1.9 vw diesel. so over the weekend im going to remove the lucas pump and see if the sprocket can be detached and see if it can be fitted t the bosch pump.
wondered if anyone had done this and could throw me any advice before i get the old spanners out over the weekend.

I know it may sound a little silly
But have you put the fuel lines the right way round

I am asking as I did this and had the same sinking feeling of a non starting engine

As to changing the pump I have not done this but a reply to a question I posted on the same subject was

"it is an easy job to swop the pumps over,but it a total nightmare to set up the timing correctly"

cheers for the reply, will double check the fuel direction, we even thought that the engine might have been cranking in the wrong direction but its right. think i might just change to the bosch pump as its going cheap and then will give me the chance of runn ing veg oil. my mates giving me help with the engine and is a bit of a wizz with diesels so timming shoudnt be a prob, cheers

got the spanners out today, managed to swap the lucas pump for a bosch pump from a 1.9 vw engine. had a few mods to make on the pump craddle but other than that the swap was simple, the sprocket swapped over ok. the only head ache was getting the pump timming sorted but alls running now

the bosch pump had a sprocket attached that had a timming mark that corrisponded to a mark on the pump. so when i swapped over the sprockets i used that mark to mark up the new pulley. had a few probs with timming as at the beginning of the haynes manual it states that all methods explained will use cylinder 1 for timming purposes. but later it starts to use cylinder 4? so the timming was 180 degrees out. i will use a tdi gauge later for fine tunning. its quite simple to swap the pumps so long as the engine timming is right it doesnt matter if the pumps a tad out as you can keep playing with that.
just been cutting and welding the engine lid so that all is neat and tidy.
task for this week is to plumb in a radiator and make a heater plug circuit.

sorry forgot to add that on my citroen engine there is a hole near the starter motor that you can use to lock the flywheel and that gives you TDC on number 1 cylinder

After geting my t25 through the MOT with a 1.9 na pug engine I decided to go for a spin
After the first mile I had decided that there was not enough power
Twenty mins later I had put a bid on a 1.9tdi from a 406 and got it for the sky rocket price of 75 quid

Will be fitting it this weekend
