Just out of curiosity, would you mind take photo of the lights against a wall?
If you manage to create the same beam profile as a standard bulb this is really great!

I made some pictures, but no comparisons between normal bulb and LED...I don't feel like swapping one again. So all these pictures are with two city light LEDs.

OK, here you go, only the city light LEDs on:

In real life it's a little bit brighter.
It's not very bright.... I know, but now look at it from the front:

Somehow the right headlight always looks brighter in pictures.. strange...

And this is the light with the low beam on:

Looks like a normal beam profile, doesn't it?

From the front:


Our MOT only checks the beam profile with low beam on, not with only city light on. So I think this will be OK.

I installed LED daylight driving lights.

They costed 39 euros at Halfords. But I had to use a relay to switch em off when I turn on the normal light, that costed me another 10 euros.
They are only 0.9 watt a piece, so instead of 110 headlight watts + auxilary lights, I am only using 1.8 watts!
I will probably not really notice it in fuel consumption, but all little things help, and it saves the headlight bulbs.

I installed them under the front bumper, they look like small fog-lights.

In the picture the lights don't look bright, but they are!

low beam on:


As you can see, the daylight driving lights autmatically switch off when I turn on the lights. This is mandetory in Europe.
I used a relay that can also switch things off. Those relays are sometimes used for fog-lights too.

Hi Gerrelt,

nice job you have done
i recently fitted out my bug with LEDs
every bulb in the car now except for the charge and oil light and obvioulsy my H4 headlight bulbs are now LEDs

main reason for the change was i run clear elephants feet taillights and clear front indicators and the amber and red bulbs ruined the effect so i fitted LEDs which are white when off and make a much cleaner look

i found i couldnt stop at that and replaced all the dash, front parkers, interior light etc with LEDs and as a result of them using 10% of the power the original incandesent bulbs my electrics work much better

luckily i was able to find drop in plug and play replacenents for all of the bulbs

being overloaded with power windows, remote keyless entry, big stereo and A/C in the works wasnt helping matters

LED's are somewhat addictive, once you start installing them, you want them everywhere!
