|
|
Hi and hello to all-new to this site so big hello
just found my new project(as if I need another) in a barn in france. Hasn`t been running since 96 and tin worm has had the munchies for a while.
Got the alfa running with carb linkage on one side only-ok so far
not sure about rad though- abit of chassis has been cut out to fit it in
only got a small garage with this project halfway through so its going to have to sit on the drive
sills are shot and front ends rusty so a lot of welding to do-
also problem in france is that its illegal to modify your vehicle so its all going to have to be well hidden or i`ll bring it back to the UK to use will add some more when it stops raining and snowing and I can move it! |

this one is a 1500 but in the same barn there are 3 other alfas one of which has a 1700. Looks pretty similar to the 1500 so if i can get that as well i might be able to get a bit more power for the bus.
Anyone know if the 1700s are better to use apart from the obvious power increase?
looking forward to taking it for a spin down the road to see how it goes. I used to have a bay with a 3.5 v8 rover with a ford rad in a scoop up front which was great apart from the speed the fuel guage went down!
the pipes on this alfa going to the rad are short sections of copper from engine and then long sections are in plastic- anyone used plastic pipes?? |

from the small sections of plastic pipe i can see from your photo, they look like the same plastic as those on a T25. They are getting more expensive but do the job well! _________________ '79 Bay running citroen 1.9td and phat tyres! |

ahh that makes sense for the pipes as there`s lots of t25s around the barn in various states.
Fraid i`m limited on the engine for peugeot pick up as it needs to be near original as possible to get it through the french mot. I`ve managed to find a 2l peugeot j9 van engine( from the eighties!) and a friend is making up an adapter plate for the original box and looking at turboing it. I`ll need to then disguise it all as much as poss so it looks like the original to get it through the mot.
french mot rules are crap |

nice find, the 1500 will be just over the 100bhp ( later 1700 was up around the 140 mark but they were injected) should move the van nicely.
the pickup also looks good you should get it on sitehttp://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi if you have not already.
as for government mot's long live the independent mot tester in the uk |

It's good to see another Alfa conversion!
Drive it warm gently, and when it's warmed up, rev it!! They like to rev.
It's like what James May said about a Fiat Panda:
| James May wrote: | You rev it and rev it and rev it until the valves come out and dance around on top of the bonnet
and then you change gear. |
Allthough "on top of the bonnet" will be difficult, in a bus... _________________ homepage

Fortunately the guy who did the conversion transferred the little red light to the dash which when it goes out gives you permission to floor it!!!
Was going to road test it today but only managed to get it running for 30 seconds and then it died- something simple i should think. So started pulling out all the dodgey added in electrics(including 240v cables to run the stereo and lights!)
A big chunk of chassis has been chopped out to fit alfa rad in- which I think will cool well but In afront end crash it must be a lot weaker |
