Ok So I am changing the injection system on my 1.8 mk3 golf from the single point injection 'carb' to multipoint injection from a mk3 GTi, however I need to find an ECU!

Basically I had found an ecu+loom on ebay and someone used the 'make an offer' button somewhen a little while before I looked at it again (it had days before the end of the auction) which left me stuck for wiring loom and ECU.

Basically to do the conversion I have bought inlet manifold/injectors/throttle body, GTi MAF and a wiring loom from a 2litre GTi. Then I got a bit stuck at the ecu side of things.

I have found a cheap ECU but the guy said he cant remember what it was from, just knows it wasnt the right one at the time, all he has is the ID code which is as follows:

037 906 024 L

now I have had a quick trawl on tinternets for that code and cant seem to match it, I can find lots of ECU listings with the same numbers, but not the 'L' so I was wondering if there is any other way of finding out what car its from?

Are there any other components I will need to swap the FI system over? I did notice a GTi has an idle air stablisation valve, is this needed? I recall some people deleting them from the cars?

You may probably think this is a pointless exercise in some cases, but I figured 2 things:

1) the GTi injection system may be more efficient with 1 injector per cylinder
2) I need the manifold for my beetle (the 1302s with a golf engine) for clearance issues and its not much more expensive to change the injection setup on my mk3 as it is just to buy a normal manifold!

Pointers much apprecieated!

early 2.0 8v gti the type with 2x2 diagnosits rather than 16 pin obd doesnt have a immo fitted, there are a few types of ecu brand if i remember correctly might not interchange?

cant help with part numbers at the min as my ussual pc with etka installed isnt working

you can bin the idle air valve just block the holes and set the base idle screw when engine is warm, worst that can happen is a lumpy idle for first 30 seconds and ecu will alter timing and fuel to help that
