I bought an under engine cross member the other day to fit under my Peugeot XUD engine from a 1996 LDV Pilot.
Well my daughters just bought a 1979 BL Sherpa camper wagon, but the reason we bought it, is because it again has full 1996 LDV Pilot running gear in it. We couldn't find her a cheap VW so thought this was a pretty good next bet, as the later LDV Pilots all ran Peugeot XUD diesel engines.
It could be a good thing for all of us who are converting our VW engines to know that as this is a longitudinal engine installation that everythign fits very nicely indeed for us.
The Engine mount I bought looked very long and I was planning to chop some off but I've noticed that its actually the mount for the Vacuum pump for the brakes, which runs off a different bottom pulley with an extra belt drive so that could be useful too.
Plus if anyones thinking of running power steering on their Type 2 then of course the usual power steering pump is fitted between the alternator and the bottom pulley.
All in all its a good easy way of getting the thing set up for us guys who are putting XUD engines into our VW's. |
