I've been doing a bit of research as I'm getting a bit frustrated with the lack of adaptor for my ford engine. I've been offered a vw diesel bellhousing but read on here that they don't have mounts like the type 4 bellhousing.

I'm guessing I'd have to fabricate a better mount at the rear but does anyone have any clue if it's a bolt on thing, onto the bay 2ltr case. The shifters are located differently so I'm assuming it wouldn't clear anyway.

Same applies to the starter positioning, does this require clearence to the bellhousing mounting hanger on the van?

Some pics of the diff bellhousings here

I'm thinking I could make an extension to the existing hanger part to mount on the engine bolts on the bellhousing to add support but it's not desirable as I'd rather use the proper, softer, diesel gearbox mounts. But I'm guessing VW just had the one at the back and i don't think it would convert particularly well with it being a nose poo.

Any one done this in a late bay, is what I thought necessary?

Just searched a bit more and found this site, on here elsewhere, which confirms that theres not enough room in a late bay for the bellhousing as is - fuel tank would have to be raised or the gearbox lowered.

ayup, my bay has a t25 box grafted into it - it's a right pig. whole gear linkage has been installed resulting in equally sloppy gearchange as before. looks like the fuel tank hasn't been modified for the gearbox but has for the engine. (looks like it's been smacked with a mallet!)
